From one team to another, there are well-documented games in which bowlers went on to dominate batters thoroughly. In one such enticing example, we have bowlers who’re fastest to 3—Wickets in a Test setup.
Pertinently, the bowlers on the coveted list include one basis of maximum 90 matches.
Team India’s premium spinner Ravichandran Ashwin tops the chart with 300 scalps in 54 Tests. He achieved the landmark against Sri Lanka on November 24, 2017, at Nagpur.
Moreover, Ashwin is followed by Australian speedster Dennis Lillee. Lillee bagged the second spot to bag 300 wickets in 56th Test. He bowled brilliantly against Pakistan on 27th of November 1981.
Sri Lankan veteran off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan went past the tally of 300 wickets while taking on South Africa at Durban on December 26, 2000.
Also, New Zealand’s fast bowler Richard Hadlee who made things difficult for the batters with sheer pace bagged 300 wickets while playing his 61st Test. He achieved the feat while taking on arch-rivals Australia at Wellington.
A prominent Windies bowler Malcolm Marshall, who ruled the roost, is fifth on the table. The sensational paceman took 61 Test to bag 300-plus wickets.
Interestingly, South African Dale Steyn who is found of adventures claimed 300 wickets when he was playing his 61st Test. He achieved the milestone against New Zealand at Newlands in Cape Town.
Australian legendary leg-spinner Shane Warne is seventh on the list to become quickest to take 300 Test wickets. He achieved a milestone while facing South Africa at Sydney.
South Africa’s all-rounder Allan Donald is one of the fastest bowlers to bag 300 Test wickets. However, he took 63 Tests to make it to the top ten list.
Australian prominent bowler Glenn McGrath is ninth on the list. He became overall third quickest from Australia to bag 300 scalps in the Test fold while playing his 64th Test against Windies at the WACA in Perth:
Moreover, England’s Fred Trueman achieved the milestone against Australia at The Oval in August 1964. He took 65 Test to claim 300 or more wickets.
Here’s the table of fastest to 300 wickets in Test fold:
